I lived here while I attended college. I appreciated the inexpensive rent and close location to my school. I did not appreciate the roast infestation that was reported multiple times by multiple tenants that was never ad dressed. I was informed that management treated for roaches in a few select units, which did not halt the spread. Additional requests for roach treatment were not addressed. Maintenance showed up with absolutely no warnings and landlords would enter the property with no prior notice. These actions are not legal. Prior notice is required except in cases of emergency, and covering my AC unit is not an emergency. When I was home alone and people entered my apartment, I was absolutely terrified because I had no means of self defense in case it was an intruder. One maintenance worker was furious with me for not dropping everything I was doing to help him when I had no idea he was coming. I was in class and could not leave, and he yelled at me, which upset me greatly. We requested multiple times for previous notice and while we were assured we would receive it, we never truly did. One landlord made creepy comments about me while I was dropping off rent. My checks were cashed incredibly inconsistently. I was accused of failing to pay my rent one month because I had my roommate write a check for me, and management admitted they do not read what the check is for and simply read who its from, so they assumed I skipped rent for a whole month. Management never followed through on towing regulations and if someone parked in your assigned spot management ignored it. I was charged cleaning fees for leaving my room in the exact same condition I found it in, which says a lot about cleanliness when you initially move in. When I originally moved in and cleaned my room, I removed cigarette ash from the windowsill, scraped brown filth off of the shelves and fan, and vacuumed a plethora of grit out of the carpet. It also reeked of weed. The kitchen was sticky and the cabinets were covered in a layer of black grime. The oven and microwave were not clean. The door lock was broken and was improperly fixed multiple times by maintenance because management did not want to replace the entire lock and knob mechanism. This neglect led to months of my roommates and I getting trapped inside our apartment because the door would get stuck shut or simply couldnt open since the knob was not connected to the actual latch. I was so relieved when the issue was finally resolved after essentially begging for the issue to get properly resolved. The shower in our main bathroom would not change temperatures once running, which was a nuisance but livable. These are instances I can think of off the top of my head. Im sure there are more to consider. If you are a college student considering affordable housing, this is certainly an option. Please ensure you have a thorough understanding of your lease before you sign. It is pertinent you seek advice from an adult you trust frequently to ensure you are receiving proper maintenance and that your time at your residence is being respected. more ... hide ...
