I feel that Jonesboro Housing could be more supportive to their clients. They do not provide resources for apartments that accept Section 8 vouchers, nor do they have connections with apartment complexes to work with them. The units that do accept Section 8 vouchers are often in poor condition. This could be my last year in this county due to the voucher with a 13 year old and a limited budget in comparison to the true cost of housing. It should not be this hard, but it is. After five years on the waitlist, I received my voucher in 2020. However, due to Arbor Gardens wanting to raise the rent by $100, Jonesboro did not want to cooperate and I lost my voucher in April 2022. Ms. Dennis, my Case Worker, provided contradictory information and did not tell me how long I had before my voucher expired. This caused me to be homeless and now I am back living with family, but I cannot afford the market rate rent. Jonesboro Housing is not being reasonable with the rental prices in Clayton County. Someone needs to be a voice for these families and assist them more. I tried to save my voucher, but nothing worked. I even requested a Transfer, but was told I did not have enough time, even though my voucher did not expire until April. Rather than helping, they left me in the dark. Just writing this brings tears to my eyes! I make $15 an hour, and that is not enough to secure a place. more ... hide ...
