Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, our rent was raised drastically by nearly 70% based on what our landlord predicted we would make over the next 12 months, though one of us had been laid off due to the virus. Our attempts to explain this to them were fruitless. This policy of basing rent on future earnings is a disaster as it does not take into consideration someone's illness, job loss, or other factors. It is the most callous thing I have ever seen in public housing; it is completely heartless and shameful. In June, we will not be able to pay the rent, which will likely result in our eviction or a court case. I do not understand how they can guess what we will make over the next year, especially those who work per diem. Looking through the lease, it appears that they are counting on me not being a legal expert and are hoping I will not challenge them. Despite us trying to do the right thing, two out of the three of us have not received the Covid-19 relief funds, and this is a huge problem. It just seems wrong that the government is providing relief funds to citizens only to put them in a position of being evicted and ruining their lives for no valid reason. WHY DONT YOU ALLOW SECTION 8 PARTICIPANTS TO USE THEIR SECTION 8 TO PURCHASE A HOME IN MONROE COUNTY PA THEY GOOD ENOUGH TO ENRICH LANDLORDS BUT NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO LIVE IN THE CITY ISNT THAT DISCRIMINATION
