Contrary to some other opinions, JCHA workers do not enter your apartment whenever they please. The monthly newsletter reminds everyone when it's time to replace filters and conduct pest control, and it always happens on the same date. Maintenance personnel will only enter if you report an issue or if something is noticed during the yearly assessment. Moreover, when a JCHA staff member needs to enter your apartment for any purpose, they knock first and declare who they are, then wait. When they open the door, they announce themselves again. The JCHA office staff always act in a professional way. Some people expect to be treated as if they were royalty, but that is not the case. You will not be disrespected, but don't expect too much. Remember that anyone can have a bad day, especially if they are constantly dealing with people who are rude and ungrateful, who always want more. Reading the other reviews, public housing is not comparable to the Ritz Carlton or Bell Air. There are certainly pros and cons, but as long as you adhere to the guidelines, try to be a good neighbor and don't cause any issues, you should be alright. You will be notified in advance if they have to enter your apartment, and they will not go through your belongings. A monthly newsletter is provided with all the necessary information and is updated each month with any new information. Rules are strict, and some of them may seem ridiculous, but they are in place for a purpose: to keep order, cleanliness and safety. Attitudes and moods of people may vary, but if you are a good tenant and are courteous to the staff, you will not have any problems.
