In recent years, being a landlord has been tough due to tenants not having the means to pay rent, and landlords not having the ability to evict them. The Housing Authority has not been helpful either; I tried calling them every other day for two weeks but no one ever answered, and the messages I left and emails I sent went unanswered. I have rented to the same family for eight years, and not raised their rent, so I'm receiving an amount far below market value. However, the Housing Authority hasn't paid me since July 1st, which I find perplexing due to all the money the government is printing. I count myself lucky for never having to contact them before now, otherwise I'd still be waiting. The family I'm renting to is great, and I would have recommended Section 8 vouchers to other landlords, but after this experience I'd advise against it. I'm very dissatisfied with the Elgin Housing Authority, and I hope someone in a higher position sees this feedback and takes action, as this office is a burden and a detriment to both landlords and the families they try to help.
