The purpose of the Housing Authority is to ensure that everyone has a place to call home. My schizophrenic sister was living in the Ratekin Towers apartment, but had become increasingly unstable in recent months. My schizophrenic sister was living in the Ratekin Towers apartment, but had become increasingly unstable in recent months. As her emergency contact, I went to the Housing Authority to inquire about any rent due, but I was unaware that she had already been evicted. Even though I was listed as her emergency contact, they refused to talk to me and couldn't locate her file. I sent a check for the rent, thinking that maybe she hadn't paid, but the check was sent back with no explanation. As a result of her illness, my sister was unable to inform me that she had been evicted. Eventually, I received a call from the Housing Authority asking for the address of the closing letter. I responded that my sister was now homeless. When I asked where her belongings had been taken, Nancy told me that they had been thrown away. The Housing Authority was unable to locate her file again. My question is, why was I not contacted as the emergency contact? All they had to do was make one phone call to inform me about the eviction, or to contact her case manager for her items. I would advise caution when renting through the Housing Authority, as they appear to lack empathy. more ... hide ...

The front end staff were very nice and helpful However up to a 3 year waiting list Not helpful when someone is about to be homeless I called to ask about units that had been vacant in Nellie Bectal for at least 3 months The lady would not even le The front end staff were very nice and helpful However up to a 3 year waiting list Not helpful when someone is about to be homeless I called to ask about units that had been vacant in Nellie Bectal for at least 3 months The lady would not even let me finish asking and was very rude Kept telling me we have a list Yeahso answer my question My ladies application hasnt even been entered yet She said that takes 23 months Seriously Do they send them to the moon first When I asked why these have been vacant so long with a waiting list the response was they are going through the applications It takes that long when they have a waiting list Sounds like a very inefficient system to me I have never been so frustrated trying to find a place to live for someone whose income is less than 900 a month and has a cat Must have income 3x the income of the rent There isnt such a thing as AFFORDABLE HOUSING in Grand Junction Wonder why we have a homeless issue Especially for the elderly more ... hide ...

The women in the front office were so nice to me They explained how to fill out the forms and told me what to expect A little kindness goes a long way
