I am fortunate to be where I am today, especially considering my past filled with misused opportunities, from educational and employment chances, to marriage and fatherhood, and even jail and prison. I have been sober since July 22, 2000, and had been homeless in Golden Gate Park for years before. I was then connected to Southeast Health Center and was blessed to find a doctor who still cares for me and a re-entry program providing counseling and psychiatry, as well as my caseworker, Ron S., who assists me with all functions, from making appointments to providing food when necessary. The most important of all, I had someone to listen. On February 23, 2014, I moved into the RCA Apartments, a new building with 120 units, and most tenants here are disabled, mentally or physically. Community Housing Partnership has given these lost souls a place to stay, hoping each finds a purpose in his or her life.
