However, its taking many months to get rid of these bed bugs in my Apartment.Ive never had bed bugs prior to living here, nor do any of the 3 houses I go to. Even so, Ive had them ever since I moved in 7 months ago. After discussing my issue with several different residents, I found out the person who occupied my Apartment (609) prior to me had bed bugs bad. Sure, they changed the carpet out and probably sprayed, but that doesnt kill the eggs or bed bugs hiding in walls, outlets, vents, or other non-floor related areas. Especially since they can live for about a month without food. The Manager is willing to personally spray if need be and Pest Control comes monthly to do half the floors and any apartments that need it. I just wish there was a better option to take care of this issue. Im just sick of them and its very frustrating. They wont go away and no permanent solutions are being offered. Ive had to have Pest Control spray every month since being here. They apparently move from apartment to apartment because multiple other residents Ive spoken to have been dealing with them their entire time living here. Apparently it has become part of their daily routine to spray rubbing alcohol around their apartment and to check their blankets/pillow every night. One person even goes as far as keeping everything double bagged except for only a handful of clothing.Ive already had to spend over $100 for mattress covers. I have to buy 91% isopropyl alcohol to kill them. Residents suggest buying sticky traps. I mean, the included Electric Bill in Rent is so not worth the hassle, especially if you have to keep buying stuff to temporarily deal with them. Before moving in, Id make sure to check all the cracks and crevices for indications of them. Perhaps throw down sticky traps as a precaution.more ...hide ...

Safe neighborhood. Maintenance is friendly and responds quickly. But what I appreciate the most has to be how nice the office staff is. One day I called with a small (but sort of urgent) problem and since maintenance was currently busy, one of the office guys came to help me. I thought I had gotten my keys stuck in the door but turns out I was wrong. So embarrassing but he was super nice and helpful. There€™s a lady who works in the office who dropped what she was doing to talk with us about concerns. She was patient and thorough. I just feel like everyone goes above and beyond. If I had one complaint, it might be that the carpets and the kitchen and bathrooms are sort of outdated. But in my mind, those are minuscule problems because good management and a clean property are so worth renting here.more ...hide ...
This place had the most outrageous maintenance issues I have ever encountered. If you are thinking of living here, get yourself renters insurance - even though it's not required, you ABSOLUTELY NEED IT. If you are thinking of living here, get yourself renters insurance - even though it's not required, you ABSOLUTELY NEED IT. For instance, one day I went to the bathroom, opened the door, and it fell off its bottom hinge. I then stepped into the bathroom to find a pool of water dripping from the ceiling. When I reached for my bath towel to dry off, I PULLED THE TOWEL RACK OFF THE WALL. The stairs leading up to our apartment were deteriorating, and staff disregarded the maintenance request for weeks. Our apartment flooded twice, and we lived on the upper floor. On one occasion, waste water backed up and overflowed out of the toilets. The second time was during a storm when the kitchen ceiling caved in. This is a prime demonstration of what it's like to live at Oakbrook. Most of the time it's fine, but then suddenly things start to go wrong drastically. I was about to give this place two stars because the staff did seem to care about resolving the major issues (particularly the floods). Oakbrook Terrace is FAR too expensive for the troubles I had living there. We were paying $850+, and although it was a nicer place, it simply was not worth the hassle.more ...hide ...
