It's not a nursing home and if I hadn't stumbled across it five years ago, I wouldn't have known what to do since I didn't have anywhere to go that I could afford and still feel secure with my little dog. I hadn't shared living space with other people for over forty-five years and adapting to it has been difficult as I'm an introverted person who doesn't join in on the card games and lunches. Elderly people are prone to gossip, and, for some reason, they like to spread stories about my behavior that are far from the truth. After almost six years, I'm not offended by the stories anymore, and I even start my own rumors in order to get them going. I'm conscious of the fact that if it wasn't for this place, I would have likely been homeless with my little dog. For seniors, there are limited housing options unless you are wealthy and own your own home. There were a lot of student housing and family residences, but I couldn't find an affordable option for people over sixty. My therapist told me about this place. As it was being constructed, I drove past it each day, assuming it was just another student apartment complex.
