When I got to the desk and told them I saw a rental I wanted to apply for, the response was "If you don't have a good credit score, don't bother." I just nodded and said my credit score probably wasn't good enough. The older lady then went on to explain the rest, but I didn't listen after her first comment. It was obvious she assumed I didn't have the necessary qualifications. As I left, the young person at the desk gave me a look that said "I'm sorry." I'm not wealthy nor perfect, but I have a steady job and a part-time job; I pay my bills, especially those related to housing; I want peace and quiet; I don't have any drama in my life; and I just wanted a place I felt secure and that was closer to work. But I guess the color of my skin led to a different conclusion. I'm not angry, merely disappointed. In my 56 years, it was the first time I experienced something similar to what my parents must have gone through when they were the first brown people in their neighborhood, only to find out that, even though they were brown, they were the most successful people there. We satisfied their rigorous requirements, but were not approved by the property owner, at least so we were told. We called regularly for two weeks to check up on our application, but we were kept in suspense despite being told that no other applicants existed. One day they claimed the owner was no longer considering us, then the next day he was, then he wasn't again, and so on. This business should not be allowed to keep applicants in limbo without giving them a definitive answer about their status. We finally had enough and asked for our application to be withdrawn and for our money back because we didn't want to rent from people who treat us like that. I emailed a complaint to the owner of TR Lawing, requesting that the supervisor of the office call me, but still no response. It's appalling!! We are very reliable, honest people and there was no excuse why we shouldn't have been accepted!! We met all the financial qualifications, so I'm uncertain what they're looking for, but I wouldn't bother wasting my time!! The other negative reviews are accurate. Believe me!! I wish I had paid attention to them, it would have saved us two weeks of stress!! more ... hide ...
