On the plus side, he always felt secure in his apartment, the other tenants were friendly, the location was ideal, and the staff was great. Unfortunately, his motorcycle was stolen from the parking lot twice, the rent went up annually, the new washer and dryers were pricey and hot water cost extra. To make matters worse, there had been a bed bug infestation in the apartments for at least two years that I'm aware of. The problem persists because the bugs can spread through the internal hallways and back into the units. The manager told me that she wasn't allowed to authorize the spraying of all the apartments or she would likely lose her job. When we were moving out, I discovered the bed bugs in my father's apartment, and he's an elderly man with dementia who had likely been bitten by them for an unknown length of time. There were even notices issued to the elderly tenants that they had to report all bed bug sightings, or they would face eviction. This kind of stigma only makes people reluctant to report the bugs. Now that we are in a new home, we have the same problem with Mira Vista bed bugs, and each spraying will cost us over $1000. I'm consulting a lawyer about this. Mira Vista had been more ... hide ...
