Good morning I039m a certified educator with NYS Education Department and always an advocate for underdogs College educated professional female life long learner I039ve worked in various industries and a former employee handling NYS empties at Quick Stop Redemption Center located next to your Hathorn Court housing complex I worked at Quick Stop to help a family friend due to employee turn over While handling empties and interacting with a diverse group of people i recycled Snapple caps as fun facts for all customers to read and learn from I was able to incorporate my love of reading into my job as I shared Snapple caps039 facts which not only were ice breakers for customers waiting but also as learning opportunities for everyone to quotpass it onquot throughout their days as customers left our Redemption center Some of my most favorite memories were of conversations made resulting from these Snapple fun facts especially from children who were reading during summer vacation Irember specifically a couple of chllildren who asked if they could keep some Snapple fact caps thar intrigued them since they didn039t have books a5 home to read Heartwarming and heartbreaking my plan worked to encourage reading and sharing with all ages I also made time to share math challenges with children to encourage then to calculate the simple math of how much money they would earn from their empties redeemed as I wrote them their unit ticket to redeem in the Store Those were some fun and simple games to help children think during summer while trying to remind them to read and practice math facts to prevent the quotsummer slumpquot when returning the school in the fall
I039ve purchased and collected basic learning books coloring books crayons and pencils other supplies with the intent to donate to Beecher School where i was a substitute teacher many years ago Inspired by my Mommy the very best teacher I ever had I planned to donate supplies and clothes in honor of my Mommy in fall 2021 Due to ongoing issues with my divorce process and the devastating loss of my Mom who died **phone#**hidden** those items for Beecher school went to a storage unit as a heartbroken memory My mother was an underdog as a child of widespread systemic failures of Chemimg County and Elmira School District Both of my parents were underdogs due to widespread systemic failures they always remained optimistic and tried their very best to dig out of repeat cycles of failures When I grew up my parents didn039t have much financial money but their hearts were abundantly full of genuine gold We might not have had the fanciest food to eat and vacations to go on our bellies were full we had a warm dry place to live and we always had books to read We even had memberships to book clubs where we regularly received hard civet books in the mail My parents dedication to my brother and my education proved to be one of their most valuable investments as we both learned to love to read My love of reading everything is 100 a result of the best parents in the entire world my Mom and Dad Although these learning items to donate were intended to honor my parents especially my Mommy I wasn039t able to donate these items when planned While my Dad worked outside of our house my Mom was a stay at home Mommy while we were growing up as she encouraged us in every aspect with optimism and creativity I039ve thought of various ways to donate these items to make the donation heartfelt as the original purchase with additional purchases were intended to be Since schools are closed for summer and the summer slump will set children back when school resumes in September I thought of the children in socio economically disadvantaged areas with limited resources to participate in summer reading clubs summer cohesion Taffy programs and other pay to pla programs I039d like to bring my supplies to your facility as a fun time for children to color read write and share being children during the summer If you have an outdoor pavilion or area where children and families could come once or twice a week where I would volunteer my time and donate my supplies to encourage all children to have opportunities to have fun while also decreasing the summer slump I drove by your complex last week while driving by Woodlawn National Cemetery on my way to Elmira I saw several cutelittle children running along the edge of your housing complex I thought that was the perfect place to share my learning items that were intended to help while honoring my family while also memorializing my Mom as a heartfelt thank you tohelp other underdogs Too much to proof read as the heartache remains fron the loss of my Mon and the current health struggles with my Dad I039m certain they both would be happy to know they were the inspiration for mymessage to you today and the heartbreak behind my grammatical errors since it039s too sad the reflect upon and proof read
Would you please contact me at my cellphone **phone#**hidden** to discuss my 100 volunteer opportunity with the Hathorn Court community I appreciate your time and serious consideration to help provide summer resources to your families and children Thank you and have a wonderful day
