I had four full days of respite care for my dad. The day before he went, he was able to walk with minimal assistance. When I picked him up, however, he could no longer walk, stand, or talk and he was on a PEG tube. Aids told me that the peg tube had I had four full days of respite care for my dad. Aids told me that the peg tube had repeatedly fallen out, and his clothes and the chair he was in were both soaked with tube feed that was not connected. Less than 24 hours after discharge, he was in ICU with pneumonia, his kidneys had shut down due to dehydration, and he was septic, on a ventilator, and fighting for his life. This was neglect, clear and avoidable. I called daily and most times was unable to reach the nurses station. I left detailed instructions and pictures taped to the wall, and I asked to speak to the director of nursing the day after I picked him up, but I never heard back from anyone. The lack of communication and neglect is mind-blowing. This facility simply housed my dad, but did not provide adequate care. The aids were wonderful, but the nurses dropped the ball. I will pursue this to the utmost levels. My dad is now fighting for his life when this should have been simple care, and it is a result of neglect. more ... hide ...
