Most of the staff there do not know sign language and, despite the recorded message saying all staff are trained in American Sign Language, this is not accurate. Ohio School for the Deaf is still affiliated with Columbus Colony, but not to the same extent as before. The strongest aspect of the facility for deaf individuals is the deaf community, not the care. The nursing staff there mostly have heavy accents, making communication, even for those who can hear, difficult. My parent had items go missing and were wrongly blamed for it. We have not had this issue since moving back to our hometown. After a month of stressful experiences, we moved them out and I would not recommend this facility to anyone who is deaf.more ...hide ...
