I was quite pleased with my tenancy until I had to move out. When I first moved in, I paid a nonrefundable deposit of $175, and the lady who helped me said that unless there was significant damage, that would be the only cost. Now, post-move out, I've been informed via email that it'll cost me an additional $87 dollars to clean the carpet and sink - despite this amount not even coming close to my original deposit. The office said they can't use my initial payment towards these additional costs since it goes through a vendor. How is it fair for the renter to owe money at this point, when their deposit is more than double what they're asking? And if I don't pay within 15 days this will all go into collections - which is outrageous as I was never late on any payments during my two years there! And to top it off, no one mentioned anything about a surety bond when we paid our initial deposit. Unbelievably dissatisfying experience!
