For the past week, I have been trying to call my healthcare provider to place an order for my medication, yet I am unable to do so through my My Health Vet website as the medicine has been cancelled without explanation. On average, I have been on hold for an hour and a half without ever talking to an operator. When I called today, I had been caller 3, but five minutes later I became caller 10, then two minutes after that, caller 21. After waiting for another hour, I was connected and the operator verified me, transferring me afterwards and I was put on hold again, quitting after 20 minutes. Since the nearest VA hospital is over 60 miles away from where I live, I had an appointment for respiratory therapy set for August and I usually receive a reminder in the mail. As I hadn't gotten one this time, I started calling, but it got me nowhere. The VA diagnosed me with CHF (Congenital Heart Failure). I now have less than a week's worth of medication left and cannot even get an appointment with a local doctor to do the lab work required in order to receive medication. The staff of the phone system are having major issues with contacting veterans and it is leading to life-threatening situations. I understand why 200 veterans in Arizona died waiting for appointments or needed medication and care. more ... hide ...
