I lived at Carmel Plaza Apartments for a little over a year. I would of stayed in this complex... however, due to the owner getting greedy they decided to raise the rent over $700 from one year to the next. Apparently, s ince this complex was built in the 1980s they are not rent controlled. This is something you should strongly consider before moving in, they can and will raise you rent to whatever they want once your lease up.This has caused a massive exodus in the building with most tenants moving out. If they would like to charge what other newer amenity rich complexs are charing around the area then they should do some serious re-modeling because the building desperately needs it. The elevators are also old and one is constantly out of order/broken.The apartments itself are spacious with a washer and dryer in each unit, however, most of the appliances are older. They are also very quiet as you really can not hear your neighbors, most importantly they are BUG FREE which is a huge plus in DC.The best part about the building is the location. The staff is also courteous at the main office although there is one security guard during the weekdays that is NOT friendly and none of the tenants I talked to like him. Im not sure why they keep him around? The night/weekend security guards are friendly and courteous.I also did get my security deposit back in FULL within 30 days.Overall, was a great value before the ridiculous rent hike. Now, there are better/newer buildings in the area so its not worth the rent price they are currently charging. more ... hide ...
