Many of the apartments have had updated kitchen cabinets with no handles, partially painted walls, no new carpet or flooring laid, hallways without carpets or covering, windows without blinds for months, and promised bathroom renovations not yet done. There seems to be no supervision or coordination of the work, it is done little by little with weeks in between more repairs. Meanwhile, tenants have to live surrounded by boxes of their belongings while they wait for the renovation to be finished. Now the downstairs lobby is being remodeled while the apartments remain unfinished. I asked Channel 4 to investigate these sanitary and hazardous conditions. They would have done a story, but the residents who were asked refused to appear on TV. I understand why they declined; low income housing is scarce and if they complain, and the management who incorrectly said all apartments had been renovated takes offence to their TV appearance, these people might be subject to prejudice. The dust affects those with respiratory diseases, and those in wheelchairs have to evade obstacles in their own apartments. Capital Realty gets paid by the government to make up for the rent a tenant cannot pay; these individuals merit a suitable place to live.
