After my grandmother passed away and my disabled mother and I faced ten months of unemployment, I was able to gain employment again just to make ends meet. We now have car repair bills that total over $6,000, which severely limits our ability to move. It appears that we have very few options due to our sudden misfortune. There should be a protocol in place to help those in similar situations to ours, at least until we are able to become financially stable again. Usually, low-income programs have a bracket for those who make a small amount more than the cutoff that allows them to partially recover from their financial struggles. For instance, if someone is over the limit by $10,000, their rent could be raised slightly to compensate for the excess income, while still providing them with affordable housing that can help them raise their credit score for future rental opportunities. Unfortunately, this isn't the case, and families that make a moderate income don't have the same chances as everyone else.
