I received 9 months of rent/utility assistance, however my application was marked as complete when I should have had 3 more months remaining. Upon further investigation, it appears that this is because they count electric and rent separately towards the total amount of assistance. After speaking with Jennifer from Valley Charities and Sarah, a supervisor at the call center, I was told that an appeal would be needed to address this issue. After searching their website, blogs, quarterly reports - all without success - it became apparent that nowhere does it state if you ask for help with utilities your total number of rental assistance months is reduced. No one in their right mind would pay electricity instead of a month's worth of rent; so if the formula were correct then 18 months' worth should've been given as opposed to 9. Terry Beverly failed to mention this when speaking with me initially; likewise the call center said no repayment could be made for electric bills in order to receive 3 more months' worth of rent relief. An appeal has now been filed but apparently this is a common complaint - something which may warrant being posted on their website (as it isn't currently featured anywhere).more ...hide ...
