It is the first time since 2014 that the Chicago Housing Authority will accept new applications.CHICAGO- The Housing Authority of Chicago this week opened its waiting list for all families wishing to apply for affordable housing or subsidies for the payment of rent for the first time since 2014.The Chicago Housing Authority will be accepting new applicants who wish to live in buildings managed by the agency or wish to enroll in the voucher program. The waiting list excludes housing under the Section 8 program. The last time these lists were opened was 4 years ago and by then the agency received over 260,000 applications, the Sun-Times newspaper reported. That year, CHA also ran a random lottery to decide which people to add to the list. It should be noted that waiting times vary according to the location of the building and the size of the unit, the wait to request vouchers or subsidies is generally less.
