My mom lived in this ILF independent living facility from 20162019 Her rent was subsidized because she only had SSI Her decline into dementia precluded her from staying there longer but the staff was always very good to her helping when they could anMy mom lived in this ILF independent living facility from 20162019 Her rent was subsidized because she only had SSI Her decline into dementia precluded her from staying there longer but the staff was always very good to her helping when they could and other residents also helped In fact they went above and beyond the call of duty They did their best to offer Mom services and Moms participation in Meals on Wheels saved her life because it was MoWs timely reporting of Mom not taking her meal that caused them to find her in dire straitsnnThere is a wide range of foreigners living here so I think it provides a unique opportunity to meet those from other culturesnnThe apartments are certainly sufficient for a single elder living alone the grounds are pleasant to view there is plenty of parking for residents and visitors and the facilities are clean conducive and easily navigable There are regular activities to engage in each floor has a common room as well as chairs near elevators and every Friday afternoon a man comes in selling fresh produce It is conveniently located right next to the Peach shopping mall which makes going to the grocery store just about as easy as can be not to mention many other things like sending parcels eating out and so on It is such a pity that a resident hadcaused a kitchen fire that did substantial water damage the sprinklers all went onfrom the 8th floor down between the two elevator shafts The last time I saw it at the end of September they were still in the process of fixing the halls and apartments while the residents lived in hotels at CSAs expense I presumennThe only things I noticed while moving Mom out was that the bathrooms do not have fans only a vent above the shower and while there are trash chutes recycling is only on the 1st floor and there are only bins for certain things We were a bit sad when CSA staff thanked us for cleaning out Moms apartment and tidying up because apparently the families of most elders living there abandon the possessions and dont clean up Shame on themnnI highly recommend CSABuckheadmore ...hide ...

A high-rise built in the 1960s with 200 seniors, how bad could it be? Very.The building is infested with German roaches and bedbugs and it needs to be tented to make a dent in eradication.Everything was OK when my mom moved in but within six months, she reported feeling sick. I picked her up and she was disoriented and covered in red, swollen bites.We inspected her apartment to find that it was crawling with roaches and bedbugs. It was horrifying. My husband was the only one brave enough to enter to remove a few items and take photos and videos. We quickly moved my mom to our home and had a junk removal company throw away most of her treasured items. It was very traumatic for my mom and a huge headache for us to manage this issue.We believe that an apartment near her was treated with insecticides and it pushed these bugs into her apartment suddenly as until that point, she said she€™d only seen one or two on occasion but didn€™t want to complain. She€™d kept her place neat and tidy and had recently had an inspection to which staff told her how nice it was. Which now we€™re realizing this €œinspection€ was probably to check for bugs due to someone in a nearby apartment reporting them.The chemicals used are not what you want you to be breathing at 65 and up, or any age. I acquired a list of them from the exterminator the building used. When they fogged my mom€™s apartment, they didn€™t evacuate neighboring residents and they told her to stay away for only a few hours. In a high-rise with shared walls, it doesn€™t make sense. And it also didn€™t work. When we returned at the end of the month to finalize her lease, it was still covered in bugs.And if you think bedbugs are no big deal - think again. They are very tough to get rid of once you have them. The exterminators we spoke with said that they don€™t like handling them and when they do, they charge thousands of dollars.I feel sorry for anyone living here with nowhere else to go. We spoke to a few other residents who acknowledged that the bed bugs and roaches are just part of the building and they put up with the vicious cycle. They report them, they spray, they come back again.Photos show traps my husband put under my mom€™s bed. These photos were taken post-treatment so you can see how ineffective it was. We have videos of large roaches still scurrying about her apartment after treatment. The place was inhabitable and unhealthy.Our exterminator reviewed our photos and videos and said that it appeared - based on the infestation and size of bugs - that the building did not have an effective treatment plan.I don€™t know if there is anyway to help the people here but I wanted to start by making sure anyone considering this place knows this story.more ...hide ...
