I find the first few weeks at a Deerpath of Huntley to be somewhat unsettling. After suffering a massive brain stroke and hemorrhage in1997 I€™ve spent hundreds almost thousands of hours in heavy therapy to learn to walk talk-and chew. The staff at Deerpath is mostly friendly and usually helpful the food here is horrible. And there are a few very good CNAS. That are here to help this is Not assisted living it€™s supportive living so it€™s very independent and like any SLF some CNAs don€™t want to assist in any way. I always do what I know is safe for me. Even when someone with zero training in physical therapy tries to get me to do something different than I€™ve been trained to and know I€™m safe and likely not going to fall.more ...hide ...

There is a total lack of communication in this facility. The social worker tried to contact me to announce that my mom had cognitive issues without knowing that she was taking Oxycotton, Norco, and Tramadol all at different times?! Really? Then the physical therapist attempted to evaluate her physical ability while she was on these medications? Astounding! I insisted that a nurse be on the phone with the meddlesome social worker listening in on a three-way call. The nurse was shocked and promptly decreased her medication dosage. What's more, NO WIFI!! What the heck?! I went to the nurses station and told her that the public wifi was not operational. She was not moved and refused to give me the other wifi for Alden which had a more powerful connection for the second floor. How is my mother supposed to amuse herself while she is here? Who watches standard TV anymore? This place is like a prison. Why would the staff completely cut off their residents from the outside world like that? This is clearly a form of senior abuse. Activate the wifi! Make it stronger or make it work. This is so ill-informed and antiquated and unacceptable and imprudent. So oppressive!!more ...hide ...
