The concierge desk is always abandoned, with no set hours listed; and the walls are incredibly thin, with people playing loud music and shouting at late hours of the night on the other side. There is a pervasive smell of marijuana in the hall, and I am almost certain that I heard a drug transaction going on on the balcony below. The surroundings look not at all safe; my first night here included a major brawl in the 7-Eleven parking lot, leading to the arrival of five police cars and an ambulance. The Subway across the street has a completely barricaded counter with bulletproof glass. I certainly do not feel safe living here alone. I was previously told by my landlord that the region was secure enough to be in during the night, but now they are denying having ever said this. Upon my intention to move out, I was also informed that there would be no attempts to rent out my apartment until I had paid the two-month penalty, which is illegal in the state of Maryland. The apartment itself is neat and roomy, with a secure parking garage, but what a price to pay for this! more ... hide ...

My rental experience with The Galaxy has been downright awful. After moving in, I found numerous roaches in the kitchen and bedroom. After moving in, I found numerous roaches in the kitchen and bedroom. Unfortunately, the staff at the front desk and leasing office were not helpful and just told me to wait for pest maintenance people's weekly treatments. They won't even let you get a back-up FOB key for yourself or visitors, which they claim is for "the security of the building." Nonetheless, multiple times I've come home to find either the garage door open or stairwell doors propped open--there have even been homeless people sleeping in our stairwells! Moreover, on weekends there's an issue with trash piling up in the trash room; it only causes more pests to appear. Also, some residents don't follow valet trash service rules and will leave their trash out on wrong days. In summer months when hallways lack temperature control it smells of hot garbage--it's embarrassing to invite anyone over! Lastly, walls are thin so you better hope your neighbor is quiet; I've dealt with barking dogs and loud music regularly and no one seems fussed about it. All that said, I'm counting down until I can move out of this place; do yourself a favor and rent somewhere else in Silver Spring (except Gramax--it's owned by same group as The Galaxy & supposedly worse). more ... hide ...

On the upside this location is extremely convenient to public transportation access plus groceries and shopping at Giant Target and 711 in short walking distance My place had brand new carpet dishwasher and stove The staff were always responsive to m On the upside this location is extremely convenient to public transportation access plus groceries and shopping at Giant Target and 711 in short walking distance My place had brand new carpet dishwasher and stove The staff were always responsive to my requests I never once felt unsafe Never had to complain about noise from neighbors The wireless cafe and the club room were awesome amenities Only one concierge was consistently rude and petty the rest were professional and kind Maintenance usually responded very quickly I liked that this was a secure entry bldg and that even if an occasional drifter happened to get into the garage or stairwell they still needed a key fob to get hallway or elevator access My neighbors were amazing people different cultures friendly and courteous with very few exceptions My apt faced a very nice courtyard with only internal key fob access allowing me to securely open my patio door and let fresh air in There were flowers growing outside my bedroom window I installed plugin pest repellents which were very effective for the 2 years I was therennOn the downside when two adjacent Apts were vacant the pest control spraying sent a flood of roaches into my home coming from behind the wall into the cabinets and drawers My apt also faced the trash room directly across the hall and on Sunday nights only trash bags would overflow some residents didnt care about leaving food trash directly on the floor Last summer the fire alarm would go off incessantly triggered by God knows what or who but we would have to evacuate at all hours of the night The shrill alarm was super loud and triggered my anxiety The loading dockparking garage elevator would occasionally get stuck between floors and I knew two people who were trapped in there for at least 30 minutes Overall it was more positive than negative more ... hide ...
