My ex-father in law and I are I applied for a flat last year and was refused because of a so-called "criminal record". Later, I discovered my ex-father in law works for the Property Owner located in St. Joseph Michigan. My ex-father in law and I are not on good terms, as his wife and him have guardianship of my daughter without any intention to give her back. Even though I have visitation rights, there is more coming soon.
I am sharing this to tell that after I applied for the apartment, my ex-husband (not his son) spread some false rumors about me supposedly writing on the application form. Fortunately, I had saved a copy which proved his words wrong. Both my husband and father in law are now quite friendly with each other which gave him access to this information easily. According to HUD, if denied then I should appeal it since my situation has changed significantly since then as the felony isn't violent or against minors/children; it was an internal family issue only.
I still want to live there as many people know me already who have lived there before too; rent is reasonable plus kids would love it! So, now the only thing left is to call the office again but if time has passed then maybe contact HUD? Any ideas?more ...hide ...

A tenant forewarned me before I moved in not to do this, but I disregarded his advice, only to discover later that he had been telling the truth. If you reside in a downstairs apartment, you will be able to hear every noise your upstairs neighbours make. Acquiring a parking spot requires you to fight your fellow inhabitants, who are allowed to have multiple cars that they simply leave parked for months. When you complain to the administration, they suggest that you should pay extra for the single parking spot that is allegedly included with the apartment, rather than asking those with multiple vehicles to pay to park the extra cars. They made everyone switch to a very unprofessional cable, telephone and internet provider, Innfinnity, that will deceive you and even charge you for a full month of services even when their systems were shutdown for half the month. I must admit that the apartment itself is gorgeous. However, after a year of experiencing an array of problems, I am relocating. The only reason for my review is to caution people so they don't waste their time and money moving in here, like I did.more ...hide ...
