Edit Rental Inquiry My name is Chelsea Cook. I am 23, and my father, Mitchel Cook, is a 75 year old disabled veteran. My father resides currently at 445 N 2nd street, in the housing Hilcrest apartments. Within the past few months I�ve been made my fathers caregiver, he has a doctors order from the VA hospital. With that I�ve been staying with my dad to help him with his needs, which has cause us to be evicted by housing from our apartment because the requirements to be here are to be of the age of 55+ or disabled. We received the eviction notice on June 8th, and was supposed to be out by July 8th. In that time I applied my father for veteran housing assistance so know he has a HUD-VASH program caseworker, her name is Charissa Young. She�s been helping and giving us advice. She set us up to be available for pay vouchers to help us get into a place. We received a summons to court for September 7th, and was given a ballpark of when we for sure have to be out, which is about September 17th. We were hoping to move into an apartment recently but since me staying with my dad to provide assistance and us being evicted, we were rejected. The eviction review has been making it hard to get into somewhere. Previous to the eviction my father has never been late on any of the bills, him and housing have an agreement on the date he pays his rent due to when he receives his pay. I am hoping to find a 2 bedroom apartment for my father and I to move into as soon as possible, before the 17th if at all possible. Roaches have been a huge problem; the management has sprayed four times in the last year, yet I'm still seeing them. Five years ago it was different, but now they're letting just anyone move in. There are only two maintenance workers to cover the entire complex and it's a mess - garbage everywhere and pet owners not cleaning up their pet waste. These apartments look neglected. I know rent in Grand Rapids is expensive, but I'd rather pay more and be comfortable than be scared in my own home because of the roaches. I'm extremely clean, yet it doesn't matter when the people around me are not. The staff are nice and they send the exterminator, but it's pointless when the residents don't keep their place clean. Oakview should renovate these apartments right away. The only good thing is the rent is economical for those who are just looking for a temporary place to stay until they can do better. I'm not badmouthing Oakview, I'm just giving my honest opinion. I can't wait to buy my own home and leave this place! more ... hide ... Making a rental inquiry
