I drove up to the area and the businesses were closed, with broken windows and guarded with fences topped with barbed wire. A group of 6 policemen with their lights on, as well as an ambulance, were located half a block away, though I had no idea what was going on. There were large homeless encampments right next to the complex, which, while not necessarily a problem, made the neighborhood feel very insecure. S. Jackson Street used to be a lively place with good restaurants, but now it is desolate and dangerous. Grungy, hostile-looking people were loitering around and the area was filled with trash. The leasing office had been vandalized and was boarded up, so that was not a good sign. I arrived at 10am as instructed and waited for 30 minutes but no one ever showed. I was stared at by the unkempt men, and I received no response to calls or texts, so I left. The apartments here are lovely but small, and my friend used to live here. However, I am not going to pay $1400 for a studio apartment in this dangerous place.more ...hide ...

I think that the building has had its share of problems and the management has addressed them. I feel comfortable here now and I feel the owners are genuinely concerned. Its up to me, the tenant, to be in a nice place. And I feel the management is on the right track. We will make this building a great place to live. Any problem starts with me and not my neighbors. That itself is a problem when you see something you dont approve of and make it bad without doing anything about that:)more ...hide ...
