As I am disabled and more than 55 years of age, I was given the option to move into a new, upgraded apartment with a market rent of $799 per month, including water and I have been living here for approximately one year. As I am disabled and more than 55 years of age, I was given the option to move into a new, upgraded apartment with a market rent of $799 per month, including water and electricity. Unfortunately, I am receiving Social Security and a fixed salary, so I am unable to work anymore. The managers and new owners are planning to raise my rent to around $899, which is what they are charging new occupants. Those living on the top two floors are paying $1000 or more a month, as their apartments have more features. While I enjoy living here and feel secure, I am worried that if they raise my rent, I will not have enough money for food. The new owners are investors who own high-priced luxury apartments across the country and they want to take advantage of us here, as well. This place is not worth what they intend to charge, as there are no amenities, no washer/dryer, an inadequate gym, no pool, and the grounds are not taken care of. In addition, this is an old building with a severe roach and pest problem. I recommend that you search for another residence where the owners are not driven by money. more ... hide ...
