I have lived here for 3 years. Its been a great place. No place is perfect but Ive lived other places and Martin Towers is one of my favorites. The apartment I have is spacious and comfortable. Central heat and air. Util ities included in the rent. This is a HUD property. Tenants pay subsidized rent based on income. You must be diabled or elderly to apply here. All the tenants are adults but family and friends are always welcome. Grandchildren In My case! I have met great friends, there is a community room and an on sit coin operated laundry room. The bus station is a block away. All of this in a historical building. It may not be everyones cup of tea but I like it no more ... hide ...

I wouldnt even give them one full star, but I have no other option. My roommate and I were looking to move in the the apartments and applied and put down a $200 deposit in early March. I had to keep calling them to see i f our application had even been reviewed. Finally we heard back from them in May. This was after calling on a daily basis for 2 weeks. They said we could look at an apartment that they used for viewing purposes, and that every apartment looked the same. They set a move in date for us. That day came and went with no response from them, they said they were still missing some info from us for our application (like they couldnt have said something months ago when we applied?!?) and re-set our move in. Finally it was time to sign the lease, they made us sign the lease before we even got to see our apartment and come to find out the place was missing drawers, blinds, window screens, the smoke alarm was yanked out of the ceiling, the bathtub and sink were full of hair and there were wet clothes laying on the bathroom floor, just to name a few things wrong. Then when asked about it, they said they could hire a cleaning crew. My roommate had moved her things in and had been there a week after cleaning for days straight, and I decided I needed to help the people that were letting me live with them. Their father had committed suicide, and when trying to explain to the manager that I couldnt stay, she yelled at me saying it would stay on my credit and that you simply cannot break the lease, and that sometimes people do things that we dont know why but we have to deal with it (talking about the suicide). She then asked me if my roommate would then be staying and making the $500 rent alone. Of course not. I tried calling their managers in their corporate office to see if I could get the deposit back since the circumstances were messed up and since we had to clean so much and didnt get to see the place before signing the lease. By the way, each time a manager was not there and I was told theyd call me back. 5 times. Still havent heard from them. It is almost August. I would NEVER recommend moving here, not even to my worst enemy. more ... hide ...

My fiance and I have been living here for about 2 years and just singed our lease for another year. Im giving the apartments 5 stars because thats what they deserve! The apartments are beautiful on the inside and pretty dang new. You really cannot get apartments in West Des Moines this nice with all of these amenities for anywhere near what you pay here.Yeah, there are bad reviews, but majority of them are from the old management. The current management has really stepped things up and are getting things reigned in. The last management had messed up so many things, including my own lease. Garrett Co has been amazing with working with us on getting our lease updated and fixed.Another thing, is a lot of the reviews are bad, but theyre based on the people that live here, not the apartments or the management themselves. Any apartment complex is going to have issues with a few bad apples living here. At the end of the day though, thats EVERY apartment and it shouldnt reflect on these ones.A main issue people point out is maintenance the trash situation. Im going on my third year of living here and this is the first time Ive been happy about the trash situation, and its because of our current managers here. If people just put their trash in the compactor and push a single button, all of the issues would be solved. So once again, its on the people that live here, not management. Any time Ive had something need fixed in my apartment (only been twice and minor things), theyve gotten out immediately to fix it!Im excited to have signed another year here, as this is our home! Thank you Lift! more ... hide ...
