Lease terms and options are predatory. Garage policies are questionable, and unfortunately leaves much to be desired. The bldg itself is decent and clean, has no storage, has issues with pests! Units are modestly average in sized, 11 floors, with laundry only available on the main floor. Neighbors seem nice. Its a nice area, convenient, on the busline, near shops, stores, restaurants, gas stations, parks, schools, freeways, airport, and minutes from downtown St Paul. more ... hide ...

Landlord is very rude, but pretends to be really nice. Will bring up past-tenants behavior with you if they feel like youre being rude. Will charge you and over-charge you for everything and anything regardless of legali ty. The property company who owns the place will never work with you. Ive called them many times about the landlord and asked many questions about pests and broken appliances, but I never got anything back. Oh and i hope you like constantly being passive aggressively threatened about eviction. Also, apparently some of the deposits you give them are just nonrefundable. Which defeats the purpose of the concept of a deposit. Aaaaandddd dont try to have roommates while living here. They will address only one person in the house and everyone else gets to be clueless and considered incompetent. Pests. Pests. Pests. Mosquitos, flies, bugs, wasps, you name it. Anything with wings crawls those places. They dont fix the outer layers of the house to prevent the bugs from getting in but they dont take care of the bugs either. So have fun living here! They wont renew our lease because we had to threaten to sue just to get our oven fixed TWICE. more ... hide ...

I lived at Mears for 4 years. My experience was pretty good. I had a private entrance, the walls are really thick and I didnt hear my neighbors, with the exception of a few times when one decided to have a screaming match with their partner. I never had a problem with my neighbors, although some can be nosey. The park is right across the street, and this is where youll take your dog, although I wish they had an area inside the courtyard for dogs. Pre-COVID, many free events were held at the park. They have a locked mailroom and a Luxor room for packages, never had a problem with stolen packages. Underground parking is pretty pricey, but I never had a problem with break-ins, and I always felt safe going down there. Maintenance was good.The cons: Downtown Saint Paul is not very exciting. The main elevator and exiting garage door broke down a lot. Apartment was not updated, and although it was a studio, it was small with a high price. A few times there were homeless people sleeping in the corridor. The bus station is right in front of the apartment so you do hear the bus and sometimes people yelling for it. Although I only saw this once, I did see a man standing inside the bus shelter and urinating.All in all I would say my experience was good. more ... hide ...
