I presently reside at Derstine Run Two, since August of 2014, and I am publicly writing to correct a couple of misguided facts, that was written by another reviewer. Firstly, it is a retirement community with the minimum age being 62 not 55 to reside here. Secondly, Derstine 1 is a two story dwelling, and Derstine 2 is a three story dwelling, with a basement, and each apartment has a storage cage. Both buildings has a library, with Derstine 1 library being more of the conventional type, whereas Derstine 2 has an open space surrounding, with a piano in the background and two game tables with chairs to accommodate playing card or board games. That is all situated on the second floor, and on the other side of the room, there is a regulation pool table, with a rack containing pool sticks. The separation between those two goodies is an enclosed stairway. When the elevator opens, you have an instant view of both. As you enter the building on the first floor, you can look up and see our beautiful cathedral ceiling. We have a sitting area on the first floor to enjoy with a fireplace. Theres a Community Room where we congregate for game night, movie night and various affairs we have during the year. There is an association with elected officers, that meet on the first Wednesday of each month, which every resident is a member, and can attend to give input on what activities they are interested in participating. We have a dinner in December that is celebrated by all, and the Association bears the cost. The buildings were constructed and financed by investors, who had a vision of people retiring and enjoying their retirement, with reduced income, at a comfortable and affordable, with amenities. And lastly, we have an outdoor area with a grill, lawn chairs, and some of our neighbors have taken to gardening, growing various types of vegetables and plants. To exercise, we have a track situated between the two buildings that you can walk around at your leisure. Some have even taken to feeding the birds, and supplying them with bird feeders and a water bath. I forgot to mention that on the second floor, we have a sitting area, and an open outside deck to enjoy, a table with an umbrella, and of course, chairs to relax in. The top is open air for you to relax in the sun. We also have ample parking space, and its a smoke free environment. That said, I trust you enjoyed my lengthy synopsis of the Derstine Run Community, managed by the Advanced Living Community organization. I was the past president of the Association for two years, and were continually looking for ways to improve our relationship in our home. We are family. more ... hide ... Making a rental inquiry
