This is an apartment complex for individuals 55 and up. However, I€™d wager a majority of them are at least 65, which makes the way management has treated the residents there during this 2021 winter storm all the more appalling.Residents and families trying to help them escape the freezing temperatures during the mass power outages encountered blacked-out stairwells and corridors. This is a violation of city code, and lighting should have been powered by backup generators. It was pitch black for at least 24 hours. Mind you, this is a state-controlled facility for what is mostly senior citizens with often some degree of limited mobility. Navigating during the blacked-out stairways was challenging for people with full mobility and a hazard for those with less. There was no communication from management with residents during the first few days of sub-freezing temperatures with no heat. There was not the feeblest effort at organizing welfare checks. There was zero attempt to clear or deice the pavement or approach of a single entrance/exit of the building until the fifth day of the freeze. These precautions are among the most common acts of human decency in the interest of the welfare and safety of the more vulnerable in our society.Management not only didn€™t act or initiate communication, but they also didn€™t return resident phone calls. Pipes burst, corridors were blocked, building alarms were sounding constantly, and still management neither communicated nor returned phone calls. Code that hallway doorways remain unobstructed were ignored and doors left closed. My mother tried but was unable to figure out how to keep her doors in her corridor open. Thus, hers and many others remained closed and, as a result, mobility further impeded. When management finally communicated on the fifth day of the storm, there was not the weakest expression of concern for the welfare of the community it served. No assurances of what management is doing to alleviate the existing burst pipes, flooding, blocked corridors, and hazardous conditions of walkways between the buildings and the parking area were provided. Management made sure to direct residents of where they€™d find a list of city warming stations if they find themselves in need of heat, while mindless of the limited means many seniors would have in reaching the remote resources that management so kindly recommended. My mother has lived there over ten years, and the complex was originally quite nice. She and the rest of the family felt blessed she€™d found it. However, management changes have meant quality of life there has progressively deteriorated to the point that the complex has fallen into a most appalling state. It is shameful, unconscionable, and management and the complex deserve to be reported to the city and fully reprimanded. If you or your loved one is looking for a home, I would urge you to look elsewhere.more ...hide ...
I have lived here for two years now. I was on Tuscany Villas waiting list for a handicapped apt for nine years. This was due to the fact that my special needs requires a roll in shower. I can€™t physically climb over I have lived here for two years now. I was on Tuscany Villas waiting list for a handicapped apt for nine years. This was due to the fact that my special needs requires a roll in shower. I can€™t physically climb over a normal shower step. I am glad I persisted with my application and waiting list placement. By staying in touch with the management team, irregardless of staff changes over the nine years, the Staff became well aware of my continued interest in this community.. Keeping my name on there waiting list for a handicapped unit only. Checking at least by placing a phone call once a year.I Read the other reviewers posts and frankly they are unfair.Staff turnover happens in any job situation. So politely explaining what I needed each time I called , helped facilitate my success in getting my desired goal met. And going in person when needing to complete any paperwork and politely saying, €œ Would you please file my paperwork with my application while am here. I would much appreciate your doing so. I like making your job easier in the future.€ My Politeness and Consideration went along way to ensure my application paperwork was not misplaced. Both The Plaza and Tuscany Villas offer lower income residents very lovely apartments.Tuscany Villas @Chase Oaks is the sister property of The Plaza. The Plaza is larger in size, having more rental units. I like a smaller apt complex so I chose Tuscany Villas over the Plaza. I originally checked out both communities.I am in love. I finally have a handicapped accessible apt. The entrance into the handicapped unit is extra wide.. Fitting both my electric wheelchair and crutches. The shower has a soft rubber tubing on the shower floor entrance making it easy for me to step on. Or roll over it with a wheelchair. The shower has a built in shower bench that can be flipped up out of the way for regular shower usage. It also has grab bars inside of the shower. There is an alarm button if you have an emergency and cannot reach your phone. And there is a flashing light for the deaf so you know emergency help it€™s on the way.The kitchen has a built in open counter on one side so a person in a wheelchair can roll under it to prep food. Also extra drawers and cabinet shelves compensate for the wheelchair accessible kitchen and bathroom sinks. So very nice. I love having a ceiling fans in the bedrooms and living room. There is also a small area for two bars stools on the opposite side of the counter top in the living room area. The kitchen cabinets shelves are adjustable. The appliances are very nice. I love the glass stove top. No coil burners to scrub! The maintenance man was kind and adjusted the kitchen cabinet interior shelves for me to better fit my needs.. I am only 4ft 6 standing up on my crutches. The maintenance staff lowered the shelf above the laundry room utility area. They even removed the shower bench for me because I preferred my own shower chair instead of the built in bench provided. They also accepted my housing voucher with the Plano Housing Authority. There is plenty of hot water it is heated by gas with Atmos Energy. The heat and air are electric. I love the small patio balcony. The management team is nice and promptly make repairs. The bathroom in the handicapped unit is VERY LARGE . Equipped with a roll under sink for a wheelchair. A taller toilet w grab bars. And space for wheelchair transfers on and off the toilet .The walk in closet is large enough for my long dresser as well as clothes. The management allowed my free standing medical lift over my bed. And the ceiling fan does not interfere with its operation. I am so happy I am living here in a safe, small, gated community Carrie Austinmore ...hide ...
