I lived at Mears for 4 years. My experience was pretty good. I had a private entrance, the walls are really thick and I didnt hear my neighbors, with the exception of a few times when one decided to have a screaming match with their partner. I never had a problem with my neighbors, although some can be nosey. The park is right across the street, and this is where youll take your dog, although I wish they had an area inside the courtyard for dogs. Pre-COVID, many free events were held at the park. They have a locked mailroom and a Luxor room for packages, never had a problem with stolen packages. Underground parking is pretty pricey, but I never had a problem with break-ins, and I always felt safe going down there. Maintenance was good. The cons: Downtown Saint Paul is not very exciting. The main elevator and exiting garage door broke down a lot. Apartment was not updated, and although it was a studio, it was small with a high price. A few times there were homeless people sleeping in the corridor. The bus station is right in front of the apartment so you do hear the bus and sometimes people yelling for it. Although I only saw this once, I did see a man standing inside the bus shelter and urinating. All in all I would say my experience was good. more ... hide ...

Filthy doesnt begin to describe this place with its mouse infestation plus the fact that its super ghetto. The seedy/ creepy, back biting, drug dealing, prostitute, gangbanger, low life element that seems to go on there on a daily basis is disturbing. The parking lot is hostile since the whole thing is bombarded with several long term families who park as they please never mind the fact that other cars need to get through they even park where the police have asked everyone not to park. The turnover rate of their onsite staff was handed off to several unsavory people within the 3 years that Ive been here which jeopardizes your personal info like your SSN more ... hide ...

I lived here for 2 years- from 2011-2013- and I loved it. At first there was the issue of the homeless people around downtown roaming the streets- only because theres a shelter a few blocks away. But its right across the street from the police and management worked very closely with them to rid any loiters. And after a month or two there werent really any shady characters around there. Occasionally yeah, but you live in downtown- itll happen. The actual units are beautiful (especially the floor). Our unit was perfect and felt large, even being a one bedroom loft style unit. Couldnt hear neighbors. The elevators occasionally was down (just 1 out of the 2). But these are just general issues that no way are reasons to stay away from this place. Parking was across the street- which kind of sucked during events down the street- hockey fans in particular made it suck. But the only aggravations were general things that arent avoidable from living in downtown. The location was awesome. The units were great. Management was by far the best Ive ever encountered (I even made them, er her, Lorie, cookies on several occasions). If I ever move back to Minnesota, the first place I look for will for sure be the commerce building. And when I moved out, I admit I didnt leave the unit as clean as I could have because I was in a rush, but I got back the majority of my deposit! Which was a surprise because I was expecting none of it to be returned because of how I left the place. What else- no annoying kids running around. Yes its income based- which is awesome I think! Its secure- above a Subway and across the street of an Erbert and Gerberts. Only two things could have made it perfect- 1- a washer and dryer in unit- and a dishwasher. Other than that, my wife and I loved our experience there. These other reviews must have been from prior to when management started working with the local police- who now do regular patrols at least twice an hour to ensure the safety of the tenants- and it was night and day difference compared to before they started doing that. more ... hide ...

This is the ultimate of housing for seniors. Amazing care for the senior. Great place for families to come to visit. Movie theater, pub. A little something for everyone!!! I love the Mudslide in the pub. Onion Rings real ly good and the Buffalo wings too. It feels so warm, like home. So many nursing homes are so depressing as they affect all the senses. The light is great with lots of windows, the smell you do not detect is the best!!!! Its quiet, invigorating in a calm way. Great job to everyone of the staff here!! more ... hide ...
