This provides often-forgotten elders, adults of all abilities, and people living in poverty with the chance to be meaningful, contributing members of the community. I have been a member for the past 8 to 10 years. When I needed more help than home care offered, I applied and was accepted into a Medicaid/Medicare-funded assisted living center (Macdonald Residence) about five years ago. Although independent living is ideal, if a person needs more help, this is the best option. For many of us, it is like having a family. Through the Maybelle Macdonald Center for Community, I have also met people living independently at Macwest. I am truly grateful to the founders of the center, the Maybelle Macdonald Foundation, the members and residents of Marys Woods and Father Berg, and all the generous donors, volunteers, and staff who have greatly enhanced my life and given me a purpose.
