Instead of my leasing office helping me fill out the VA Rent Relief program so I was no longer in debt, they sent me to collections. I asked her if the apartment was available, if there were any more one bedrooms, and what levels were available. I was informed the unit was available to move in and my reference date was ASAP. I filled out the application and handed it in to the property manager on 02/01/21, expecting to hear back within a week. On Friday 02/05/21 I called to follow up, as I had been commuting from MD to Dulles for work every day. The property manager informed me no units were available and the one I viewed had been leased! Clearly this was not true, since she had accepted my application and said she would call if anything was missing. I would have appreciated if they had simply said either my credit history or lack of rental history was the issue. Since I work for the USPS, my job is not the issue. They told me to pick up my application folder (including the refundable application fee), but when I stopped by before work the door was locked and no one answered after I knocked.
