I would give 0 or negative stars if I could. Apparently management doesnt like broken things on their property unless its theirs. Ill explain. The gate to the parking lot has been broken the 9 plus months Ive lived here, resulting in my truck being stolen. When police found it it was very heavily damaged and I paid well over 200 dollar to get it back to my apartments, well they towed it anyway. Which is pretty funny when you consider the fact my mailbox was broken into and destroyed SIX MONTHS AGO and still hasnt been fixed. They wont take money orders, checks, and half of the debit cards wont work on their website. So they make it almost impossible to pay your bills too. Every maintenance request i put in takes at least a month to get to. If ever. And they never, and I do mean NEVER respond to emails, or voice mails. Also, dont bother trying to contact corporate because they wont ever respond to you either. I have tried on many occasion to reach out to staff to find them not in the office, actively avoiding my calls and emails, this review is my last resort of trying to get my issues heard. more ... hide ...

The building has issues, that we were informed will be getting worked on. Some sketchy people still around. The manager is great as well as his help but some Residence will not throw trash out, they leave it near elevato r which attracts roaches & rodents. Plus window at end of hallway by fire escape gets opened and people lower stairs to let others in security seems lax with residence and some of the community that use to live here still try to continue with the old agenda of partying and hanging in hallways and holding elevator for extended time on upper floors. There is no floor covering in most apts some apts are better than others. Its a work in progress Rome wasnt built in a day so if you need a place to live that is in the downtown area near the Alamo and Travis Park this is the best place for you. Its income based. The wine bar is no longer downstairs instead it a loud bar with activities that are not neighbourly. When we got home at 7 the bar had put a valet service taking all the parking Infront of the building which is meter parking most residents had to park several blocks away. There are a lot of different parking permits but between both business hotel and bar its best not to own a car, public transportation for sure or walking. Lots of homeless always begging. My mom lived in an Old Apartment Complex in Converse for over 20 years. They never repaired anything, painted or even changed out the carpet. There was roaches everywhere and the mold was in every wall. I finally convinc ed my mom that it was time for her to move. I checked around for places for Seniors on fixed incomes with no assets. There are several around but the one thing that made Merritt Lakeside stand above the others was the level of activities the staff provides for the residents.I placed her on the waiting list and i had little hope to be able to get her in anytime soon due to the long waiting list. Within 2 years, I was called and asked if we were still interested. I said that we were. I brought mom to the complex to see the many things that they had to offer. We submitted all the paperwork and were accepted. She officially moved in on April 1, 2020 during the pandemic. Many activities were canceled and mom didnt like being on the 3rd floor since she uses a walker. There are elevators all through the complex so going between floors is no problem. Once she was moved in and she got used to the layout of the buildings, she loved the complex. It was just hard for her to leave a place after 20 years, even if it was a terrible place.The first time she submitted a request for maintenance, she was surprised that they took care of the request that same day. She loves going to Bingo on Wednesday and once more activities open up, she will have a busy social life.We just renewed moms lease and the office staff were very nice and took the time to make her comfortable signing all the paperwork. The Manager Vivian Alvarado came out and visited with us as mom signed the lease. This community takes care of their residents. My mom signed up and received her Flu Shot and the Johnson and Johnson Vaccine all at the apartment community.If you are looking for a great place to call home for yourself, or for a parent, then give Merritt Lakeside Senior Village a try.
